Racial Equity Studies (G Cert)

Program Purpose


This program is designed to give students - pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, school counselors, school administrators, other educational practitioners, organizational members, and community members - the racial literacy needed to 1) understand structural racism; 2) develop and engage in antiracist methods with which to address structural racism and interrelated forms of oppression; and 3) become leaders on racial equity in their educational, organizational, or community settings.

Specifically, candidates will be able to:
-Demonstrate knowledge about how individual actions are connected to larger systems of oppression or equity.
-Analyze the impact of institutional policies and practices on racial disparity and equity. -
-Transform policy and practice to promote more racially equitable school outcomes.
-Promote a culture of racial awareness and antiracism across schools, organizations, or community settings.
-Create educational, organizational, and community environments by designing and implementing practices that value racial diversity in schools, organizations, and communities.
-Advocate for racial equity at school, district, organizational, and community levels.

CRT Analysis

Use key concepts of CRT to analyze the impact of educational policies and practices on racial equity.

Racial Equity

Create policies and practices that lead to greater racial equity in specific educational, organizational, or community settings.

Racial Literacy

Apply concepts of critical race theory to demonstrate knowledge about how individual actions are connected to larger systems or racial oppression.
