Alcohol and Drug Studies (Minor)
Program Purpose
To prepare the most qualified rehabilitation case managers, rehabilitation counselors, substance abuse counselors, clinical mental health counselors, vocational evaluators, counselor educators, administrators and researchers possible and to expand the professional knowledge base through research. To achieve recognition of the education and research at the state, national and international level.
Learning Outcomes
Recovery and Relapse Prevention
Students in the Alcohol and Drug Studies Minor demonstrate knowledge of various theoretical principles of recovery (e.g., changing people, places, and things) and relapse prevention (e.g., identifying triggers, cues and developing coping skills).
Research Related to Substance Abuse Contemporary Issues
Students in the Alcohol and Drug Studies Minor demonstrate knowledge of current research related to Substance Abuse Contemporary Issues.
Role of Community Supports in the Addiction and Recovery Process
Students in the Alcohol and Drug Minor demonstrate knowledge of the importance of family, social networks, and community supports in the treatment and recovery process by achieving an average score of 80% on the 12-Step Reflection assignment.
