Rehabilitation Sciences (PhD)

Program Purpose


The mission of PhD program is to develop advanced scholars with interest in rehabilitation science with a concentration in communication sciences and disorders (concentration of either speech-language pathology or audiology) or movement sciences and disorders to improve function and quality of life and reduce disability across the lifespan. We will accomplish our mission:

  1. preparing professionals and advanced scholars in rehabilitation sciences to provide critical leadership in research and health service and
  2. preparing scientists to carry out research on rehabilitation processes in a variety of settings.

Learning Outcomes


Communicate

Students will demonstrate communication skills through speaking, listening, writing, and other methods of interpersonal expression.

Dissemination of Research

Students will disseminate research findings through publications.

Knowledge

Examine and synthesize the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of aspects related to the student’s respective discipline with current literature.

Professional Behavior

Students will participate in at least one service event (speaking at local community outreach event, speaking at state/national conference, clinical service, community service through profession, etc.) that promotes professional development skills.

Research

Design, analyze, and report findings from independent research using a variety of methods relevant to the student’s respective discipline within rehabilitation sciences.

Teaching

PhD Program Students will demonstrate excellent teaching skills.
