Music (BM)
Program Purpose
The School of Music will attract skilled, dedicated faculty; will admit students who have the potential to excel; will provide musical, creative, scholarly and educated outreach for the region. Students in the Bachelor of Music in Music, Performance, will develop comprehensive capabilities in the major performing medium including the ability to work independently to prepare performances at the highest possible level; knowledge of applicable solo and ensemble literature; and orientation to an experience with the fundamentals of pedagogy.
The BM in Music, Music Therapy, degree offers excellent job opportunities in a profession which combines the beauty and power of music, a desire to work with people with special needs, and a life of satisfaction and growth that comes from helping others through music. Students in the Bachelor of Music in Music, Music Theory/Composition, will develop advanced capabilities in musical analysis including the ability to produce and discuss analytical work from independent perspectives and an understanding of the relationships between theory and composition.

Conducting
Students demonstrate leadership, rehearsal, and conducting skills as appropriate to the particular music concentration.
Music Analysis
Students analyze music of varying genres.
Musical Collaboration and Interpretation
Students will synthesize acquired musical knowledge and artistic skills sufficient to work as a leader and in collaboration on matters of musical interpretation.
Musical Creativity
Students demonstrate a rudimentary capacity to create original or derivative music.
Musical Creativity: Marching Band
Students demonstrate a capacity to create original drill for a marching band.
Musical Patterns in Aural Skills
Students demonstrate an ability to take aural dictation.
Piano Skills
Students demonstrate piano skills.
Sight Reading
Students demonstrate the ability to read at sight with fluency demonstrating both general musicianship and, in the major performance area, a level of skill relevant to professional standards appropriate for the particular music concentration.
Solo and Ensemble Performance
Students perform as a soloist and member of an ensemble in a variety of formal and informal settings, demonstrating growth in artistry, technical skills, collaborative competence and knowledge of repertory through regular ensemble experiences of varied size and nature.
