Educational Administration & Supervision (EdS)

Program Purpose


The Educational Specialist (EdS) degree in educational administration and supervision is a sixth-year post master's degree designed to prepare individuals for senior level leadership positions in education. Program studies are adapted for the challenges of unique school district roles such as personnel administrator, curriculum supervisor, and directors of special program areas.


Learning Outcomes


Creating effective teams to facilitate PK-12 student learning

Ed.S. candidates will demonstrate their proficiency in instructional leadership and its impact on student learning and development by working with others to conduct a needs analysis and develop and implement a project to address a district level problem or opportunity in the area of improving student learning.

Diverse Clinical/Field Experiences aligned with NCSS and NELP Standards.

Ed.S. candidates will, through completing an intensive yearlong administrative internship in a diverse setting, examine the overall district operations and leadership, engage in the district leadership/administration activities, and make contributions to district improvement including issues related to serving diverse populations.

Finding, hiring, developing and retaining highly qualified district employees.

Ed. S. candidates will demonstrate their proficiency in developing professional learning communities with processes in place that result in the recruitment, induction, support, evaluation, development, and retention of high-performing, diverse staff.

Strategic leadership for continuous improvement

Ed.S. candidates will demonstrate proficiency in working with others to create conditions that result in strategically re-imaging the district's vision, mission, and goals to ensure that every student graduates globally competitive for work or post secondary education

Working across the district to promote a positive culture, enhance communication, empower stakeholders, and celebrate diversity

Ed. S. candidates will demonstrate their proficiency in district level strategic improvement by effectively communicating and articulating a district's improvement plan and promoting positive working relationships with the community.

Working with others to effectively manage district resources, resolve conflict, and establish and enforce expectations.

Ed. S. candidates will demonstrate proficiency in managerial leadership by designing or improving effective and efficient operations systems at a distrct level of a school system.
