Linguistics (Minor)
Program Purpose
The Linguistics minor is designed to provide interested students with a basis for the scientific study of language. To that end, the minor in Linguistics prepares students through coursework in the background of linguistic theory, the applications of language and its theory in the learning and teaching of second or foreign languages, and the social and cultural uses of language in society and communication.

Students will apply methods for describing a range of English dialects and all human languages in general.
Linguistic Theory and Language Role
Students will demonstrate knowledge of linguistic theory and the role that language use plays in our daily lives.
Linguistic Theory and Language Teaching and Learning
Apply an understanding of the linguistic theory and practice to the learning and teaching of second or foreign languages.
Social and Cultural Aspects of Language in the Globalized World
Students will demonstrate knowledge of the social and cultural aspects of human language in the globalized world.
Written and Spoken Language relationship
Students will demonstrate knowledge of the relationship between spoken and written language.
