Art (BFA)
Program Purpose
The mission of the School of Art and Design is to provide outstanding facilities and a creative environment for an exceptional and diverse community of faculty, staff, and students. We will combine international experience with a challenging, multidisciplinary curriculum and exhibition schedule that encourages an awareness of individual, social, and cultural issues in a safe and environmentally conscious setting. As a major research center for art and design and as the premier visual arts and art education program in the University of North Carolina system, the School of Art and Design will advance critical thinking, creativity, and leadership in the visual arts by sharing our research with our state, our nation and the world.
Students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Art-Studio program will combine international experience with a challenging, multidisciplinary curriculum and exhibition schedule that encourages an awareness of individual, social, and cultural issues in a safe and environmentally conscious setting. Additionally, these students will develop critical thinking, creativity, and leadership skills in the visual arts by sharing our research with our state, our nation and the world.
Learning Outcomes
Application of Art Principles
Students will demonstrate how art and design principles apply to artmaking.
Foundation Art Skills
Students will demonstrate basic skills in the language of art and design form and composition (principles and elements), color systems, and drawing upon completion of introductory-level ART foundations courses.
Preparation for Advanced Disciplinary Study
Students will demonstrate basic competency in technical, formal, and conceptual/expressive/communicative skills in their discipline.
Professional Entry-Level Skills
Students will demonstrate professional entry-level communication and presentation skills in their discipline.
