Communication Sciences and Disorders (MS)
Program Purpose
The mission of the master's degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders is to prepare professional speech-language pathologists to deliver exemplary clinical care and demonstrate the highest professional standards to culturally and linguistically diverse individuals across the lifespan in a variety of settings.
We accomplish our mission:
- using innovative learning strategies and methods,
- utilizing clinical competencies set forth by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association,
- preparing students to serve as tomorrow’s leaders of the profession, and
- improving the quality of life using knowledge and innovations from within the program to help transform healthcare, promote wellness, and reduce health disparities.
Learning Outcomes
Clinical Assessment
Students will demonstrate knowledge of assessment and diagnosis in a clinical setting.
Communication
Students will demonstrate communication skills through speaking, listening, writing, and other methods of interpersonal expression.
Evidence-Based Practice
Upon completion of the CSDI program, students will use multiple forms of research to inform practice decisions based clinical-community CSDI practice.
Knowledge
Students will demonstrate adequate knowledge in the core areas of speech language pathology in terms of:
- Foundations and Professional Practice
- Screening, Assessment, Evaluation, and Diagnosis
- Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation of Treatment
Professional Behavior
Students will demonstrate professional behavior in clinical settings.
Stewardship
Demonstrate professional stewardship through service and leadership.
