Criminal Justice (BS)/Criminology (Minor)

Program Purpose


The purpose of the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice is to prepare students seeking to enter and excel in the areas of law enforcement, courts, institutional and community corrections, and juvenile justice. The degree also seeks to prepare students for further advanced study in criminal justice or affiliated disciplines.

Corrections

BSCJ students will demonstrate fundamental knowledge of corrections.

Criminal Law

BSCJ students will demonstrate fundamental knowledge of criminal law.

Criminological Theory

Students will demonstrate knowledge of the major explanations of criminological theory, historical context, and the application of theory to address criminal behavior, crime trends, and criminal justice policies.

Cultural Awareness

Students will demonstrate knowledge of how inequality and cultural diversity affect criminological phenomena.

Cultural Beliefs and Values

BSCJ students will demonstrate fundamental knowledge of cultural beliefs, values, and sensibilities.

Ethical Principles

BSCJ students will demonstrate fundamental knowledge of ethical principles and the application of such principles in leadership.

Juvenile Justice

BSCJ students will demonstrate fundamental knowledge of the juvenile justice system and processes.

Law Enforcement

BSCJ students will demonstrate fundamental knowledge of law enforcement.
