College of Health and Human Performance
Exercise Physiology (BS)
Program Purpose
The purpose of the B.S. in Exercise Physiology program is to provide competencies and knowledge for students to pursue further academic training in exercise physiology or other related academic and patient care fields. Expertise contributed from exercise scientists within the Kinesiology Department, the School of Allied Health Science, and the Brody School of Medicine offers students experiential learning experiences that include involvement in the research and outreach efforts of the Human Performance Laboratory and other ECU laboratories.
The department prepares students for professional careers as well as graduate studies in exercise physiology, health/fitness, physical education, sport studies/management, and other health and sport related professions. A number of specialized options are available for both undergraduate and graduate students in the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degree programs.
Learning Outcomes
Basic Health Assessment and Interpretation Skills
Upon completion of the exercise physiology degree program, students will demonstrate competency in assessing basic health parameters to include assessment of heart rate, blood pressure, and body composition.
