Hospitality Management (BS)

Program Purpose


The School of Hospitality Leadership is preparing the next generation of leaders for the growing hospitality and tourism industry in North Carolina and beyond. Graduates of our bachelor of science in Hospitality Management are prepared to step into management and or leadership roles as they begin their careers. The combination of hospitality business management and technical skills taught in our program, together with required industry experience, develops well-educated graduates that are recruited by major organizations.

Our graduates are prepared to assume leadership responsibilities at hotels, food service businesses, convention centers, special event businesses, resorts, convention and visitor bureaus, state or local tourism offices, consulting firms, and a variety of diverse other service businesses. Their ability to utilize technical, managerial, and communication skills distinguishes our graduates in their field. Our curriculum and program are positioned to provide our students with the learning opportunities that enable them to succeed in large corporations and / or become entrepreneurs. Our graduates are and will continue to be known for their ability to make sound business decisions balanced with an appreciation for the value of diversity and sustainability.


Learning Outcomes


Communicate - Virtual Communication Skills

Upon completion of the BS in Hospitality Management, each student will be able to demonstrate virtual communication skills appropriate for entry-level management positions in the hospitality industry.

Lead - Leadership Principles

The student will apply leadership principles relevant to the chosen discipline.

Think - Conceptual Skills

Upon completion of the BS in Hospitality Management, each student will be able to demonstrate knowledge of functional areas of hospitality operations, as deemed appropriate for entry-level management positions.

Think - Technology/Computer Skills

Upon completion of the BS in Hospitality Management, each student will be able to demonstrate technology and computer skills appropriate for entry-level management positions in the hospitality industry.

Value - Communication with Cultural Groups

Each student will communicate, interact and work positively with individuals from other cultural groups.
