Program Purpose
Our mission includes:
- Expanding a workforce that addresses contemporary public health challenges;
- Teaching prevention and population health to medical students and resident physicians;
- Engaging in community-based research with linkages throughout North Carolina;
- Developing leaders in long-term care planning and administration for the growing elderly population in North Carolina.
Learning Outcomes
Foundational Competency 3: Data Analysis Skills
Students will be able to analyze quantitative and/or qualitative data using biostatistics, informatics, computer-based programming and software, as appropriate.
Foundational Competency 4: Results Interpretation Skills
Students will be able to interpret results of data analysis for public health research, policy or practice.
Foundational Competency 7: Assessment Skills
Students will be able to assess population needs, assets and capacities that affect communities’ health.
Foundational Competency 9: Intervention Design
Students will be able to design a population-based policy, program, project, or intervention.
Foundational Competency 12: Dimensions of the Policy-Making Process
Discuss multiple dimensions of the policy-making process, including the roles of ethics and evidence.
Foundational Competency 19: Communication Skills
Students will be able to communicate audience-appropriate public health content, both in writing and through oral presentation.
