Rehabilitation Services (BS)
Program Purpose
The Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation Services prepares students to work with individuals receiving rehabilitation and related services through public or private organizations in the community. Working successfully with individuals who have disabilities and adjustment problems requires good communication skills, a strong interest in working with others, and the ability to be flexible, to participate in the rehabilitation process as a team member, and strong leadership skills. Core content in the major includes history of rehabilitation services; an introduction to rehabilitation systems, vocational assessment, and related community resources and services; effective interviewing, interpersonal, and helping skills; case management; and knowledge of disabilities. The internship experience provides students with opportunities to apply their knowledge in clinical settings. Students are encouraged to complete a minor or concentration in an area related to their rehabilitation interest.
Mission: To prepare the most qualified rehabilitation case managers, rehabilitation counselors, substance abuse counselors, clinical mental health counselors, vocational evaluators, counselor educators, administrators and researchers possible and to expand the professional knowledge base through research. To achieve recognition of the education and research at the state, national and international level.
Learning Outcomes
Case Management
Students in the BS of Rehabilitation Services program will demonstrate effective case management skills (i.e., completing initial intakes, referrals to other agencies, writing up case and group notes).
