Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences
Sociology (BA)-Applied Sociology (BS)
Program Purpose
The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs in the Department of Sociology strive to train students in the methods and theories of sociology so as to provide them with the tools to better understand and succeed within the social world. We foster awareness of the significance and consequences of broad social changes, and the processes that create them. We further seek to promote social justice by cultivating among our students an awareness of social inequalities, their impacts, and potential solutions. BA graduates combine these skills with foreign language fluency which is highly marketable in today’s global society. BS graduates combine these skills with advanced training in writing, public speaking, computers, and critical thinking.
